Politics in the world and at home

I don't like to watch news, my husband always sits down for the world news in the evening, he wants quiet and he wants to know what is going on, but I feel that the news only gives you their sensationalized version of what happened.  Social media has changed how the world gets news, and how people are able to communicate from endangered areas.  My husband was born in Israel, my parents left the Soviet Union and took my brother and I out because of discrimination of the Jewish people, and now more than ever as a wife and mother in an amazing, intelligent, and proud Jewish community, I am connected to my Jewish identity more than ever before.

As much as I do not like news on the television, I cannot get enough of news on NPR on the radio and also online from Israeli sources.  The recent murder of three young boys in Israel has bonded Jewish people all over the world, and I am interested in the details of both sides, and the politics.  A friend of mine posted an article about a Palestinian view of what is going on, and it was very interesting to hear this intelligent Palestinian writer talk about terrorism and Israel, just click the link.  We want truth, we want children to be left out of deals, calculations, and revenge.

All of this also makes me think of politics in the home, the roles of parents, the personalities of children, and how you always hear the woman is the neck although the man is the head.  In Jewish thinking the man is the King and the woman is equally powerful as the Queen, but always respects her husband as the king and vice versa.  I read a phrase once that said a relationship is good when two independent people choose to be with each other.  We learn from each other, we grow together, and we even butt heads, such is life, I think smooth sailing would be boring.  I have also heard that a wife and mother is always an actress, and I definitely find myself putting on a show, and also find myself as a referee, cooling down not only my kids but also my husband.

As I read all of the tragedy all over the world, I remind myself time and time again to be thankful for our problems.
