Pizza Story and Cheesecake Galore

Every Tuesday my big boy gets pizza for lunch in his class, we pay $2 per slice, the slices are huge, he also brings snacks in his lunch, and we usually pay monthly.  I realized that today was a new month but wasn't sure if they would have pizza because it was a half day of school because of our Jewish holiday tonight, and next week is the last week of school.  Since I help out in the office I reached out to the office staff before school started whether to send $2 or not.  I sent two dollars with my husband anyway just in case to drop of at the school.

So there was pizza, but my son's name did not get checked off, and I did not know this, I never want him to feel like he is missing out.  Luckily my kids ask for stuff but when I tell them that we don't need something, or another time, they are quite agreeable, they are not a nightmare at the store.  We are driving home from school and I ask him how was the pizza and he tells me that the teacher explained that since his name was not checked off on the list, then he cannot have one, and he said it calmly and didn't get upset.  Luckily I gave him a sandwich as well because the teacher had told me before that the pizza is not enough he is still hungry.  I know it is nobody's fault, I thought of it too late, it is a crazy day before a big holiday, but I got really sad that he was the one kid without a pizza that usually gets a pizza, but also very proud that he explained to me why he didn't have one, was calm, not upset, and listened nicely to his teacher.

The good news is that they had extra slices left over, and I told the office that he never got one, so they gave him two to take home.  Sometimes we try so hard as parents to make everything perfect for our kids, and all we can really do is teach them to be good listeners, respect their teachers, and go with the flow.  I am a proud mama today, he has totally grown up, and is ready to go to a big school next year.

Tonight we start celebrating the holiday, Shavuot, and it is going to last two days, the tradition is to eat dairy and especially cheesecake.  Of course its a deeply spiritual reason,
