la·trine
noun
- a toilet, especially a communal one in a camp or barracks.
This word popped into my head while I was thinking about how we use so many different words to describe one thing. I speak Russian, some Spanish, and understand Hebrew, but English is the language that I think and dream in. I am in awe of words and how they are put together and their deeper meanings and associations. Latrine sounds a bit fancy to me, but the definition is nothing fancy. You can also say toilet, bathroom, restroom, and even powder room.
I have had a wonderful Day of Rest, my mom went to spend the day and night with a friend, my husband took the kids to synagogue, and I got to sleep. What I also love to do is read, and I read a very powerful article on the improper use of the word Genocide.
gen·o·cide
noun
- the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation.
The important word to make note of is DELIBERATE. Many celebrities are taking a stand on either side of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Everyone has a right to express themselves, make their voices here, and fight for a cause. A few sentences in this article ring so true, "celebrities, thinks that fame makes one smart."
Celebrities have a big influence on the masses that follow them blindly, so they have a responsibility to get all the facts, get informed, or please keep their mouth shut. The words that were used in the following article were so extreme, and they blindly signed the letter, and then actually made statements apologizing and explaining, but never taking away the actual words. I think this point is what is important, when you use a word like genocide to describe something that is far from it, their words have "thoroughly cheapened the real genocides of the Jews, Ukrainians, Chinese, Cambodians, Tutsis and others. These other communities, too, should be livid." Please click the link below for the full article,
